When they said old Mrs Melrose lived in a house that’d she’d built herself, this isn’t quite what we imagined.
She’s a dwarf of nearly two centuries and doesn’t get out much. Everyone around here comes to check on her, or help her with her garden, or help her prune her house. Supposedly it’s still growing, an inch or two every year; she’s looking forward to putting a bigger window in upstairs.
It takes a lot of power and time and maintenance to grow a plant to this size, let alone keep it thriving once it’s hollowed out. Even the Masters aren’t sure how she’s done it, but we kinda like that about her. Little old folk like Mrs Melrose are always full of secrets, and even if that secret is how to grow an enormous onion, it’s still brilliant in our eyes.
