Dwarves may well come from the darkness of the caves, but that doesn’t meant they’re all at ease with it. Those born on the surface, like Rick and I, find the dark and narrow tunnels full of uncertainties.
The cities and towns are beautiful, it’s true, but the long, winding pathways between are not so vigilantly kept, and strange things from the surface world will squeeze their way down through bedrock and gravel until they find safety in the tunnels. Shadows dance, the sound of rocks crumbling echoes on and on for miles with no source, and soft whispers hum through the rock walls like the thoughts of ghosts.
They’re a little scary, these tunnels, and maybe one day we’ll get used to them. But today is not that day.
