Down there. Through the mist and midges. Do you see it? It’s a kelpie!

You rarely see kelpies in the daytime, they’re usually hiding. But this one just moved in, and we spotted it yesterday. No-one else knows about it, and I think it should stay that way, for now.

Some of the grown-ups think they’re dangerous, that they steal kids and animals, but they don’t, I’m sure. Besides, I think this one is young, maybe not fully grown yet. It hides in the reeds and lilies, and the pond life doesn’t seem to mind it. Maybe we can be friends.

I think it can hear us, look, it’s acting all shy. I think we should leave it for now, come back and see it tomorrow, maybe.
