Tied To Nature

Sea serpents make unusual familiars, given their aquatic nature and fast pace. Many studiers of Nature may suggest that long creatures such as snakes and wyrms symbolise ties or knots, fixing a mage more firmly to one aspect of the natural world than another.

But how can one knot water? Water cannot be wrapped or bound, only contained, and containment sees it still and lifeless. Water must flow and thrash, bubble and crash, shaping the world around it with a touch like silk.

Mages bound to sea serpents are flexible, mysterious, changeable, strong; they must be, to tame and love a living embodiment of the seas and rivers.
