Some say they were the first kind of dragon, these fiery spirits. Magic often rises into physical forms, in water, rock, even plants, but these beings grow from the heart of volcanoes, taking life in this sinuous, blazing form.

The fires soften as they ages, finally settling as glowing embers beneath a thin, blackened shell, and this perhaps is where some see the connection to dragons. Others think the first dragons came from the deepest woodlands to the south, where time stands still and the remnants of worlds now lost linger in dark shadows.

Many mysteries surround the great beasts like dragons and gryphons, so what’s another puzzle such as this amongst the hundreds of others? Doubtful we shall ever find all the answers, so we should just admire the fire spirits for what they are.
