Finding a Way

Sometimes the bonds of mage and familiar are not always convenient, but solutions can be found, with persistence.

I am the first, I think. The first whale to bond with a land-mage. Selkies have won our enormous hearts before, but not often. But Mo was an usual boy, often riding the lunging waves on a slither of wood. Never has he shown fear of the sea, only understanding, and perhaps that is what drew us together.

Now we sing together in the vast blue world, never finding the end, of either song or wave. My daughter joins us, safe in our spell-tamed seas, humming sweetly. She insists on pulling her own float, eager to help. I wonder if she’s also bound to my Mo, it some way? Will she stay with us for always?
