Call of the Wild

Eat her? No, why would I do that? You two-legs have some very strange ideas. Utterly daft, sometimes. And no, before you ask, I won’t eat you, either.

I know you don’t understand my growls and grumbles but I’m going to tell you anyway. And you’re going to listen, because that is polite.

We’re here to catch fish, just as you are. Sure, Ann could help with her magic, but I enjoy being a bear every once in a while, you know, using my claws and dunking my head into the water. Beside, it makes Ann laugh.

Being a familiar is great, and I’m glad Ann and I were linked as we are, but living in towns and houses is… not always for me. In winter, it’s the best, with all the food I can eat and cosy outhouses made up for us with straw bedding and spare blankets… I’ve told Ann she can sleep inside with the other two-legs but she doesn’t listen.

But in the summer, when the sun is dancing down with such joy, the last place I want to be is cooped up in a town, or worse, indoors. Whenever possible, we retreat to the wilderness and romp to our hearts’ content. Wild berries, fresh fish and so much sunshine you can barely keep your eyes open… heaven.
